Ducati Roma team to make WSB debut in 2012

146_r07_canepa_actionThe Superbike World Championship will have a new name on the grid in 2012, but one with experience behind it and with ambitious plans: the Ducati Roma team. The Rome-based outfit will race with Ducati 1198 machines of the Supersonic Racing Team, following an accord between owner Danilo Soncini and Andrea Petricca, team manager of the Lazio MotorSport Superstock 1000 outfit, who has acquired the whole ‘technical package'.

"After four years racing and winning in Superstock and the Italian Championship, I am proud to take up the Supersonic Team baton that has achieved excellent results in SBK," declared Petricca. "I warmly thank my friend Danilo Soncini for the trust in us and to allow us to continue the team, adding her to our brand. Now we must commit ourselves to the maximum, not only to avoid losing the experience of the Supersonic Team, but also to live up to the new challenge. "

For its WSB entry, the Ducati Roma team can count on the experience accumulated in Superstock: an Italian title in 2009 with Stefano Cruciani and the Stop & Go Racing Team, and the good results achieved in the last couple of years with Lorenzo Zanetti and Niccolò Canepa in the FIM Cup with the Lazio MotorSport Team.
