Davies all fired up by Aragon win
Chaz Davies' third win of the year in the 2011 Supersport World Championship at Motorland Aragon, was without a shadow of doubt the most difficult and most important so far for the Welshman.
The Yamaha ParkinGO man had to struggle more than expected during practice and qualifying in his efforts to keep up with the competitive Kawasaki Motocard.com machines. His fourth place on the grid was obtained despite a mechanical problem at the start of the second qualifying session.
Davies made all the difference in the race however, latching on to the exhausts of leader Broc Parkes until his Australian rival crashed out on lap 16. "It was a very good day especially considering all the issues I had throughout the weekend," admitted Chaz. "I went into the race a bit blind and knowing that Parkes was so strong all weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect but I figured if I could hold on for the first 10 laps and make the tyres last that I'd probably be ok."
Once in the lead Davies then kept a cool head to hold off his fellow Brit Sam Lowes to the chequered flag. The win takes Davies to the top of the table, and he now has a 20 point lead over Parkes, 34 over Salom and 35 over team-mate Luca Scassa, who also crashed out.
"I just had to make sure I kept the pace till the very end. I can't thank the team enough for the hard work all weekend, they were amazing. It's a pretty great bonus after such a difficult weekend."
