Dry spell ends for Parkes
Broc Parkes has been in contention for the championship lead in the Supersport World Championship from almost the start of the year on his Provec Motocard.com ZX-6R, but he had to wait until Misano to take his first win in Kawasaki colours. Broc has now taken a total of six career wins in this category of racing his previous victory having been on a Yamaha in 2008, at Qatar. He now leads the class by five points from Chaz Davies (Yamaha ParkinGO Team).
Parkes is enjoying his first full season on the proven Kawasaki WSS machine, but he also raced for the team at the tail end of last year, taking a podium in Germany. He has now scored four of his 27 career podiums on Kawasaki machinery, the others coming with Hondas and Yamahas. This was Kawasaki's first race win since Joan Lascorz took victory on home ground in Spain last season. Parkes rode a hard and clever race at Misano, keeping Fabien Foret (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) behind him in the final laps, and now he takes his championship lead into what for him is the closest race of all to his adopted home in Andorra, Motorland Aragon.
He said at Misano "It is unreal to win. It felt really good and I got a good start from fourth place on the grid. I was really concerned how the set-up would be for the race, because we made quite a big change for the start, so we did not know exactly where we were. It was a little bit of a gamble but it paid off in the end. I got out in front, got to the lead and looked back to see who was behind me. I could see he was not a championship contender, so I had to think about points as well. But I wanted a win, I really wanted to win so much, and at the end we took it. I could see some other guys were coming, but I just had to stay relaxed and control the race. First Kawasaki win for me and it feels good, and a great job from all the team."
