Last week Carlos Checa received a warm tribute in recognition of the achievements during his career so far, organised by the City Council of his hometown, Sant Fruitos de Bages, in Catalunya.

Along with his family and friends, riders like Alex Crivillé, Emilio Alzamora, Marc Coma and Jordi Tarrés joined Carlos at this special occasion.

In recognition of his achievements, a statue of Carlos was placed in front of the municipal pavilion of sports, along with other touching tributes to the current world championship leader.

Said Carlos, "I am very happy and moved by this recognition and I hope to be able to continue offering good races to all the fans and the people who have helped me at the beginning of my career."

Carlos will defend his impressive championship lead at the San Marino round, to be held at Misano Adriatico, this coming weekend.
