Motor sport: Second world title for Pedersen as rivals fade
Speedway
Nicki Pedersen won his second world title in emphatic style when he dominated the Slovenian grand prix in Krsko.
The Dane, previously champion in 2003, went into the race knowing that 18 points from the last two rounds - the last is in Germany on October 13 - would guarantee him the title even if Leigh Adams of Australia managed a maximum 48. But Adams, after winning his first heat and beating Pedersen in the second, fell away with two last places, leaving the Dane to storm to victory in both the grand prix and the series.
Scott Nicholls was second in the final, his best finish of the year, and his 16 points put him eighth overall, one place behind his fellow Briton Chris Harris.
