Speedway: Back-marker Iversen carries Danes to World Cup
Denmark held off a terrific challenge from Poland to lift the World Cup for the second time in three years. Victory in Vojens, their home track, was sealed in the penultimate heat when Niels-Kristian Iversen, least contributor for the Danes, beat Tomasz Gollob, Poland's greatest.
Denmark's 49 points beat Poland (46), Sweden (39) and Australia (21). Top scorer was Sweden's Fredrik Lindgren (16). Gollob got 14 but the two Pedersens, Nicki and Bjarne, and Hans Andersen (all 11), forged a true team victory. Australia were hampered by injury to Jason Crump. All four nations have now won the cup twice.
