Motor sport: Speedway - Nicki Pedersen burns off rivals to seal third world title
Nicki Pedersen clinched his third world title when he won the seventh heat of the final grand prix at Bydgoszcz to put himself out of range of Jason Crump, who had come last in the fifth. The Dane had taken a 16-point lead into the event, which had been transferred to Poland from Germany the previous weekend when the track was ruled unfit.
Pedersen did not reach the final, won by Tomasz Gollob in front of his home fans to go third overall, but extended his points margin over Crump to 22. Britain's Scott Nicholls, starting one place outside the eight automatic qualifiers for next year's series, failed to overhaul Rune Holta, who had started three points ahead.
