Shoei Multi-tec Helmet
I bought the Multi-tec at the 2009 NEC motorcycle show for £230. My two other helmets are Shoei XR-1000 and AGV Ti-Tech.
The main reason I bought the Multi-tec was because I wanted a flip lid style. Often riding in a group and always stopping to chat a flip lid makes sense. Also the fact that it is a Shoei and highly rated.
Having worn it for a couple of thousand miles now my assessment of it is as follows:
On a good note:
- It’s a Flip lid.
- Very comfortable being a good fit and light weight.
- Very low noise, comes standard with the whisper kit.
- Comes with spare tinted screen and an anti-fog pin lock system.
- Chin and head vents.
- I chose a white one for visibility. It also looks like a copper’s helmet at a quick glance…not sure if this is good or bad; personally think its good as it gets you noticed.
A few not so good points to consider:
- A couple of times now I’ve managed to catch my finger in the hinge system. Perhaps I’m clumsy!
- A little difficult to open the flip front with gloves on, especially winter gloves.
- The chin guard reaches a little lower than the XR-1000 and tends to catch your shoulder on life saver. I guess it depends if you’re leaning forward on a sports bike or not, personally I ride a blackbird and can’t help but lean forward.
- Difficult to get it on your head without lifting flip lid.
Overall it is a pretty good helmet and don’t regret buying it.
My rating is 8 out of 10.
